DIGITAL BRIDGES: LITERACY, CONNECTIVITY, ACCESS & SAFETY PROJECT

Funded by 48percent.org

Project Overview

About the Digital Bridges Project

The Digital Bridges: Literacy, Connectivity, Access, and Safety Project is a transformative initiative designed to address the deep-rooted digital gaps affecting young people, schools, and marginalized communities across Bauchi State. Building on the success of the EDASE initiative, this project expands access to technology by improving connectivity, delivering hands-on digital literacy training, equipping underserved schools through mobile hubs, and preparing young people to navigate the internet safely. With many schools lacking ICT infrastructure, thousands of students—and entire communities—remain shut out from opportunities enabled by technology. This project, funded through the support of 48percent.org directly tackles these inequalities by providing robust internet access at the Zee Tech Foundation Learning Center, deploying mobile hubs to schools and disability communities, training Almajiri learners, and establishing a strong Online Safety Ambassador Program within secondary schools.

Through this initiative, students gain access to laptops, online resources, workshops, and structured digital learning sessions that nurture curiosity, confidence, and creativity. Almajiri learners—often excluded from formal digital education—receive specialized training that empowers them to use the internet to learn, create, and generate income by transforming digital content into physical products. The project also strengthens online safety awareness across schools and communities by equipping ambassadors to lead campaigns, school sessions, and bilingual radio programs that address misinformation, cyber risks, privacy protection, and ethical digital behavior. By combining access, education, and safety, Digital Bridges helps create an inclusive, digitally empowered ecosystem where learning is accessible, opportunities are multiplied, and every young person—regardless of background—can benefit from the digital world.

OBJECTIVES

  • To expand connectivity and ensure reliable internet access for students and community members through Starlink installation at the Zee Tech Foundation Learning Center.

  • To improve digital literacy by offering structured, hands-on training to students, teachers, and marginalized groups, including 25 Almajiri learners.

  • To promote online safety awareness by creating and supporting Online Safety Ambassadors who lead peer-to-peer education in schools and communities.

  • To take digital education directly into underserved areas using mobile hubs equipped with laptops, especially for schools and disability communities without ICT resources.

  • To promote responsible online behavior, combat misinformation, and encourage safe engagement with digital content through school sessions, workshops, and radio campaigns.

  • To foster inclusion by creating accessible, supportive, and gender-friendly learning environments where every participant—regardless of digital skill level—can thrive.
